Hayward® Ball check valves Hayward’s are available in ½” to 4″ sizes in PVC, CPVC and PVDF (Copy)

Hayward’s ball check valves have a true-union body design to simplify installation and maintenance. Reliable operation occurs without any need for adjustments or settings. The line pressure moves the solid plastic ball off of the EPDM or FKM seat. When flow stops, the system back pressure pushes the ball against the seat stopping the flow. The ball is free floating, so it never seats twice in the same position, preventing uneven wear. Key features compared to competing designs are: the ball is retained with the true union nuts removed and it is safety blocked.

Ball check valves can only be used within horizontal sections of piping or vertical sections where the flow rate is upwards. If installed vertically for a downwards flow direction the ball would either never seat or always be seated.

true union connection design True union connections refer to the ability to remove the valve body from the pipeline by only unscrewing the retaining nut on either side of the valve body. Whether your valve has threaded, socket (glued) or flanged connections, the true union feature leaves the connection with the pipeline intact, simplifying repair or replacement of the valve.

Our Y check valves are constructed entirely of non-alloy materials with the body, piston and spring made of either PVC or CPVC and the o-ring seal either EPDM or FPM. As with all non-alloy valves, Y check valves are only designed for liquid applications and NOT air or gases. Non-liquids have a substantial amount of stored energy even at low pressures and thus failure of the valve body could result in an explosion of PVC, CPVC or PVDF shards.

These can be used in either horizontal or vertical piping as long as the capped spring chamber is facing upwards and you’ll note the cracking pressure is slightly higher than the 1.5 PSI cracking pressure for ball check valves. Even though there is an internal spring to ensure positive seating of the plunger to the seat, at least 2 PSI of back pressure is required to ensure a good seal. The full flow design results in a minimal differential pressure.

The PVC and CPVC Y check valves have either a socket, threaded or ANSI flanged inlet and outlet connection. The PVDF version is offered in 1/2″, 3/4″ and 1″ size with either IPS socket fusion or FNPT (threaded) connections. Since PVC and CPVC Y check valves are not suitable for temperatures below 34F, PVDF is used for both liquids not compatible with PVC/CPVC as well as temperatures as low as 10F.
