Wanner Engineering Model D10 Hydra-Cell™ Pumps Flow rates from 0.80 to 8 GPM at pressures from 50 to 1000 PSI

Hydra-Cell Pumps
SEALLESS POSITIVE DISPLACEMENT PUMPS

cutaway of a hydra-cell pumpHydra-Cell™ Pumps have a sealless design
They do not have cups, packing or mechanical seals. They are used for flow rates from fractional GPM up to 45 GPM for discharge pressures from 50 to 3000 PSI. Hydra-Cell pumps are ideal for pumping cryogenic, very hot, abrasive and reclaimed fluids that compromise traditional “sealed pumps”.

Our Hydra-Cell™ pumps are positive displacement and unlike centrifugal, gear, air operated diaphragm and progressing cavity pumps, ours operate at ≥90% efficiency. Furthermore, they are sealless, meaning they have no cups, packing or mechanical seals, and this provides you with long reliability and minimal maintenance costs.

Hydra-Cell™ Pumps – Right For Your Application?
Since Hydra-Cell™ pumps are sealless and positive displacement, our applications generally fall into one of three categories:

Difficult to pump fluids: These range from reclaimed water, recycled machine tool coolant, acids, slurries, very hot or very cold fluids, viscous and shear sensitive fluids. Fluids like this tend to stick to the sealing surfaces of other pumps causing accelerated wear and leakage. The operating pressures range from just a few PSI to several hundred PSI.

High Pressure Applications: Atomizing of water, airless paint spraying, high pressure machine tool coolant pumping, Reverse Osmosis and high pressure cleaning applications such as centralized service water systems, paper mill felt cleaning and steel mill hydraulic descaling are all examples of high pressure applications.

Precision Metering: Hydra-Cell’s meet API 675 metering pump standards in terms of linearity, repeatability and steady-state accuracy. They are an especially cost-effective pump for metering applications in excess of 60 GPH.

The unique design of the Hydra-Cell™ Pump is not dependent on the fluid being pumped for internal lubrication. In-fact, all the bearings and moving parts are isolated from the fluid being pumped. This is why we can reliably pump chemicals, abrasives, slurries, viscous products, seawater, re-circulated water and many other fluids, either hot or cold. Our pumps are available with both metallic and non-metallic pump ends and can be direct driven with electric, pneumatic or hydraulic motors.

How Do Hydra-Cell Pumps Work?

Key Benefits of Hydra-Cell Pumps
They’re Sealless! There are no cups, packing or mechanical seals in Hydra-Cell™ Pumps. All the sliding and rotating parts are isolated from the pumped fluid. This enables you to pump solids laden (dirty) fluids, very hot or cold fluids and also lets you run the pump dry! Your piston, plunger, gear and progressing cavity pumps will not hold-up to tough fluids as well as Hydra-Cell’s™.

Reliability. Hydra-Cell’s™ have up to 30% fewer parts than other common industrial pumps. Less parts equates to less maintenance and downtime – which can be very costly. If you’re having mechanical seal problems or replacing stators and rotors on a regular basis you ought to really consider switching to Hydra-Cell™ Pumps.

Smooth, Consistent Flow. Since Hydra-Cell’s™ are positive displacement pumps, each rotation displaces a fixed amount of fluid. Our pumps are often used in conjunction with variable speed motor controls as metering pumps – reliably dosing or transferring fixed amounts of fluid in a process. Unlike piston pumps and other reciprocating pumps, Hydra-Cell’s™ provide a smooth, virtually pulsation-free flow rate. With the exception of certain membrane and plastic piping applications, pulsation dampeners are not required.

Description

The D04 Hydra-Cell™ Pump is a high pressure version of the D03 Hydra Cell pump, capable outputting up to 3 GPM at pressures up to 2500 PSI.

The D03 Hydra Cell pump components upgraded to create the D04 Hydra Cell pump include:
The D10 Hydra-Cell™ Pump is a powerful positive displacement pump capable of flow rates from 0.80 to 8 GPM at pressures up to 1,000 PSI. The D10 Hydra Cell pump was the design Wanner Engineering was founded on over 40 years ago and there still isn’t anything like it anywhere else in the world. Hydra-Cells™ are depended upon for continuous reliability and non-leaking performance for applications as critical as first and second pass reverse osmosis and payload tube drainage for US Navy Virginia Class Nuclear Attack Submarines to everyday pumping of reclaimed water at car washes. Sometimes they are used for higher pressures applications, but often it is due to their inherent ability to pump abrasive or corrosive fluids with unmatched reliably and zero chance of fugitive emmissions.

D10 Hydra-Cell Pump with flanged portsTo the right is a picture of a D10 pump supplied to a Refinery in NJ for a difficult, continuous duty application. Interestingly enough, one of the toughest aspects of this application was the occasional need to be able to operate dry. Pumps that are dependent upon the fluid pumped for cooling and lubrication are damaged quickly during cavitation and running dry instances. D10 Hydra Cell pumps can operate dry and even under a closed inlet – without causing damage.

Since Hydra-Cell™ Pumps have a steady state accuracy of ±1% with a repeatability and linearity to 3% or better, they are often used as a high capacity metering pumps. D10 Hydra Cell pumps combine high volumetric efficiencies with a huge selection of metallic and non-metallic materials of construction to enable us to meter slurries, acids and critical additives with superior reliability.

We can provide D10 Hydra Cell pumps in a belt-drive or direct drive configuration as pictured below. When direct driving a D10 Hydra Cell pump and using a VFD you will have a 10:1 flow turndown capability.

Do you have pumps that are constantly being repaired? What are repairs, spares, down time and inefficiency costing your company? Are you using progressing cavity, gear, piston or plunger pumps? If you are, you may be able to significantly add to your bottom line by increasing reliability and virtually eliminating spare parts orders.

D10 Hydra Cell Pump Repair Kits
The only components in contact with the pumped fluid are the diaphragms, o-rings and check valve assemblies. While the diaphragms and o-rings really do not have a “wear life” unless there is chemical attack or damage due to over-pressurization, the check valves will eventually wear and require replacement. The check valves are easily replaced without special tools and often you can swap them out without removing the pump from the production area.

Once the perimeter bolts are removed from the pump head, the check valves can be inspected and replaced. After some experience you can certainly expect to swap check valves within 1½ to 2 hours.

Expect Hydra Cell pump check valves to last 12+ months of continuous operation for applications involving relatively clear fluids and perhaps only as long as 6-8 months for abrasive applications such toll drying ceramic slurries, TIO2 and aluminum oxide. We offer check valves made of ceramic and tungsten carbide for abrasive applications or to extend the duration of check valve wear beyond the typical 8760+ hrs. Our Hydra Cell repair kit numbering and pricing tool will generate kit part numbers and pricing based upon the pump part number input.
