Tubular Backwashing Filters Ronningen-Petter self cleaning filters

When compared with disposable media systems, tubular backwashing filtration systems save you time and money by reducing replacement, handling and disposal of disposable media. Using “cleaned-in place” reverse flow technology, tubular backwashing filters supports an environmentally conscious approach to waste reduction.

Tubular backwashing filters are designed for high flow rate applications requiring small particle size retentions (as low as 1 micron) and consist of scalable designs, enabling system expansion with minimal additional cost. Tubular backwashing filters are designed to operate at pressures up to 1,000 PSI [69 bar] and are used for city water filtration, hot condensate, chiller water, paper mill “white water”, CIP fluids, and a wide variety of fluids that cannot accept external fluids for cleaning.

How Tubular Backwashing Filters Work
Unfiltered liquid enters the filter station, passing through the sealed filter element; particles that are too large either accumulate on the element surface or fall to the bottom of the vessel chamber.

The backwashing of the element occurs when the 3-way inlet valve actuates, closing-off the inlet and opening the drain port. The actuation can be performed manually for single station systems and is automatically pneumatically or electrically actuated based upon a programmable timer or differential pressure switch.

The backpressure of the system causes the flow to reverse through the element, using the already filtered liquid to backwash through the element and flush the vessel clean.

The time required for this process depends upon the characteristics of the application, but is typically only a few seconds per filter station.

Most of our systems consist of multiple filter stations installed in parallel, therefore the system is sized to provide the customer specified maximum differential pressure during the backwashing cycle. Once the backwashing process is initiated, each filter station will undergo the backwashing cycle in series, therefore the process flow is never completely interrupted.

Description

AFC tubular backwashing filter systems can be configured with single, double and multiple chambers for removal of solids 1 to 1700 microns and flow rates up to 60 GPM per housing for both continuous and intermittent duty applications.

The AFR configuration consists of 4 to 8 filter chambers encircling a custom designed valve used to isolate and backwash one of its chambers at any given time. An advantage of this configuration is that it takes up much less floor space than a comparable AFC multiplexed filter system and it has far fewer parts, which enhances system reliability. You can also multiplex several AFR’s to achieve very high flow rate capacities.
