Model 73 simplex strainers are for large pipelines (10″ through 18″) and popular as pump suction strainers due to their straight flow design which contributes to a smooth, laminar flow and low pressure drop across the strainer. As illustrated below, fluid enters through the side of the strainer basket into a half-circle shaped area. The convoluted accordian-like design increases the gross filtration surface area.

You do not require customizations and an ASME code stamp characteristic of our custom fabricated Eaton model 90 simplex strainers, the Eaton model 73 is an excellent choice. Often overlooked, another benefit of the side entry basket design is it’s lighter and physically smaller design, which ergonomically ideal and much easier to remove than the basket designed used for model 90’s and smaller pipelines.
